All students at Louisiana Tech University have big hopes and dreams for what they want to do after they graduate, but Senior, Jessica Trinh, is making her dreams come true. Before coming to Louisiana Tech, Jessica lived in Bossier City, Louisiana, which is also why she chose to come to Tech. Her first idea for a major was dental hygiene, but she decided to follow her passion, art. So she decided to major in graphic design with a minor in studio art. Jessica has loved art her entire life but learned about graphic design when she became apart of the visual art center at LA Tech. As a graphic design major and studio art minor, Jessica was led to the VISTA center by her digital painting class. The mix of digital art and science intrigued her enough to get involved with the VISTA center. With VISTA, Jessica has worked with many clients such as the Lincoln Health Foundation. She created a poster to show patients the number of groceries they could get for them and their families if they quit smoking cigarettes. She was also able to work with Perkinston’s Resource Center and the Society of Technical Communications. Jessica Trinh had plenty of opportunities as a VISTA Scholar; one being a trip to Ireland and was allowed the experience to public speak at the international conference. This experience helped her “grow as a speaker and designer.” Working with these clients and having these opportunities from being a VISTA Scholar prepared her professionally and artistically for her freelancing job after graduation. Jessica believes her experience as a VISTA Scholar “pushed her comfort zone by the real-world experiences” that she was not able to experience in a classroom. During the summer of 2019, Jessica accepted an offer to intern at a company known as Avatar Labs based in Los Angels, California. This internship prepared her for a freelance job with the same company after graduation. While free-lancing with Avatar Labs, Jessica will take on the responsibility of creating social ads and concepts as well as ads for movies. Although VISTA focuses on pre-medical illustrations and scientific visualization, the center still prepared her for the entertainment-based projects by working with outside clients. Over her years at Louisiana Tech she has gained a skill set of responsibility, professionalism, artistic knowledge, and so much more that will benefit her while taking on her career. Not only did her degree in digital art from Louisiana Tech University prepare her for this opportunity but so did the VISTA center.
